CELEBRATE RED
Yauatcha, one of London's most esteemed dining destinations, serves as a showcase for the sophisticated tableware designed by Bodo Sperlein for Nikko. Recently, we ventured across the river to join the festivities for Chinese New Year and to celebrate the debut issue of Yauatcha Life magazine.
Nestled in the heart of Soho, at the intersection of Broadwick and Berwick Streets, Yauatcha's modern façade and signature blue glow beckon passersby, hinting at the immersive experience within.
Yauatcha Life is an annual publication that artfully combines poetry, short stories, illustrations, and photographic essays, all honouring the culture, traditions, and heritage that embody Yauatcha. The inaugural issue features contributions from notable figures, including food and travel writer Gizzi Erskine, photographer Joe Woodhouse, actress and writer Vera Chok, and At The Table editor Miranda York. The magazine also includes an exclusive interview where Bodo Sperlein discusses his creative vision with York, sharing his admiration for the chefs and the profound privilege he finds in designing for the culinary world.
Descending into the vibrant atmosphere of Yauatcha's kitchen, visitors are captivated by the meticulous skill of the chefs, who bring the menu to life with practised precision. The energy of the space, filled with swirling steam and enticing aromas, reflects Yauatcha's dedication to culinary excellence.
To honour Chinese New Year, Yauatcha has infused tradition into its celebrated menu. Drawing on the symbolism of red in Chinese culture, representing joy and good fortune, the entire collection of petits gâteaux has been adorned in striking red hues. Signature creations such as the Raspberry Delice and Chocolate Pebble, alongside newer indulgences like the Blackberry Tart and Coconut Lime, make for an unforgettable feast, blending visual allure with exceptional flavour.
