We are delighted to announce the “Jugendstil. Made in Munich” exhibition, designed and staged by Bodo Sperlein on behalf of the Kunsthalle München and the Munich City Museum. This major exhibition, which will take place from October 25, 2024, to March 23, 2025, at the Kunsthalle der Hypo-Kulturstiftung in Munich, honours Munich’s central role as the birthplace of Art Nouveau in Germany.
The exhibition will feature a wide range of artworks, including arts and crafts, sculptures, paintings, graphics, photography, fashion, and jewellery by renowned artists.
Sperlein has created an atmosphere that emphasises the essence of each work. In doing so, he has developed unique presentation options for the Art Nouveau artefacts, ensuring that their intricate details and historical significance are fully appreciated in this contemporary setting. This design approach invites visitors to immerse themselves in the complex beauty and thematic depth of Art Nouveau like never before.
Later in the exhibition, a dedicated room will feature Sperlein’s contemporary designs, including his Contourline and Wave collections. These pieces, as well as the Contourline Bronze Bench, are a 21st-century homage to Art Nouveau, reflecting the movement’s organic forms and craftsmanship.
“Jugendstil. Made in Munich” is a major event for art and design enthusiasts, offering a rare and immersive opportunity to experience the subtle beauty of Art Nouveau through a contemporary lens.
