Triangelis

In 2017, Bodo Sperlein undertook a bespoke commission for Johannes Church in Erbach, near Frankfurt, marking his first public space project. Inspired by the antique brass chandeliers from the sixteenth century, reminiscent of Dutch masters like Vermeer, Bodo designed a font, ambo, and candle holder that harmonise with the church's historical aesthetic. The font, with its patinated bronze finish, mirrors the chandeliers, creating material synergy.

The brief called for functional pieces that respected the church's physicality and sanctity. Bodo's innovative approach included a dramatically suspended font that descends gracefully, fostering dynamic interaction with its surroundings. He also honoured local craftsmanship by incorporating regional wood for the book stand and utilising traditional sand-casting methods at the family-run Glassl Foundry in Michelstadt.
