Moiré
Inspired by the historic Moiré silk-weaving technique, each piece in this collection, including the carafe, candy dish and tumbler, features engraved ultra-thin, hand-blown muslin glassware. The term "Moiré," derived from the French meaning "to water," reflects the enchanting ripples and wavy texture of silk. Delicately hand-engraved onto Lobmeyr's prestigious Alpha range - introduced in 1952 - this intricate design harmonises with the glass's unique patterns, ensuring that each piece stands out. The translation of the captivating effect onto glass elevates the design, creating a mesmerising interplay of light and shadow.
These spring-time conversation pieces have been inspired from the revival of the historical Moiré silk-weaving technique, and the elegant effect it produces.
Meaning ‘to water’, ‘Moiré’ is the practice of creating a waved or rippled texture upon silk, in which such style has now been elevated onto glass inside the Viennese workshop.
Whilst beginning as an European 18th century practice for silk dresses, the Moiré design has been reimagined and transversed into new realms, including that of glassware.
