LES ATELIERS COURBET

In November 2021, Les Ateliers Courbet, the renowned New York-based design gallery, unveiled an exclusive exhibition featuring new works by Bodo Sperlein. The showcase centered around the Contourline and Onda collections, alongside a curated selection of his previous creations.

The global debut of the Contourline Bronze Side Table marked a defining moment in Bodo’s exploration of form, material, and craft. The Contourline collection, known for its fluid lines and organic curves inspired by the Viennese Secession movement, takes on a bold new dimension in this latest iteration—cast in bronze for the first time. This material shift pushes both the design and Sperlein's studio into exciting new creative territory, highlighting the collection’s tactile sensuality through the warmth and richness of the dual bronze finish.

Alongside the Contourline pieces, the exhibition also showcased new works from the Onda collection. A centerpiece of the Onda series, crafted using the delicate art of steam-bent wood, was presented with a new finish that complements the cast bronze, creating a harmonious dialogue between the materials.

Further enriching the exhibition, works from Sperlein’s collaborations with Mexican master silversmiths TANE and Austrian lighting specialists Lobmeyr were also displayed, underscoring our commitment to artisanal craftsmanship. These pieces not only highlight the dexterity of his collaborators but also speak to the designer’s ongoing exploration of materiality—whether challenging the ductility of wood or emphasizing the elegance of bronze.

The exhibition, which ran through January 2022, was a testament to Bodo’s evolving design philosophy and his ability to push boundaries while honoring traditional craftsmanship.

“Les Ateliers Courbet forms the perfect platform to showcase my Contourline collection. It is a gem of a gallery in the heart of Chelsea.”
