LAYERS: AT ANDREAS MURKUDIS
The Layers exhibition, a prestigious solo showcase by Bodo, is currently on view at the iconic Andreas Murkudis gallery, marking an essential highlight in contemporary design. Spanning an impressive six-year collection of innovative work, Layers represents a journey through his prolific collaborations, expertly timed to celebrate Andreas Murkudis' 20th anniversary.
A Masterclass in Multidisciplinary Design
Visitors to Layers will experience an unparalleled array of designs across various mediums. The exhibition is a testament to his visionary approach, featuring standout collaborations with renowned brands including Dibbern, J.&L. Lobmeyr, Jarosinski & Vaugoin, Nya Nordiska, and WienerBlut. A notable addition is his recent Ukrainian partnership, Coll.A.B., alongside fashion designer Alina Oborska, as well as pieces from his acclaimed Silva and Contourline collections.
The exhibit's curated environment exudes sophistication and harmony, showcasing works that blend functionality with artful form. This unique setting underscores Sperlein’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of materiality and aesthetics.
A Journey Through Timeless Elegance
Central to the exhibit is the Hadron chandelier, a striking piece that merges opaque acrylic with a brushed nickel crown, creating the visual allure of a suspended aerial sculpture. The Dibbern Silhouette china plates, making an early debut in the exhibition before their February 2023 release, add vibrant, contemporary touches to the gallery's walls.
Furniture pieces from the Contourline collection, such as the natural beechwood side table and chair, evoke the refined simplicity reminiscent of the 20th-century Art Nouveau movement. Suspended high above, the Cubist-inspired tapestry fabric designed for Nya Nordiska enhances the space's depth and texture. Elements from the Coll.A.B. collection, including a wrap coat, pencil skirt, and two uniquely crafted bags, seamlessly bridge the world of fashion and interior design.
Craftsmanship Redefined
Bodo’s collaborative efforts with Jarosinski & Vaugoin are a testament to his expertise in reinterpreting traditional craftsmanship for the modern era. Featured pieces include the modular Onda centerpiece range and the elegant Orlo series, consisting of silver trays, bowls, and vases. A collaboration with couture perfume house WienerBlut has produced sculptural silver perfume bottle toppers, further enhanced by personalized engraving options for the discerning customer.
These Viennese partnerships, characterised by their meticulous attention to detail, are showcased prominently in the Layers exhibition, reinforcing Sperlein's position at the forefront of luxury design.
A Word from the Designer

It encapsulates the many layers of exploration – both in material and form – that I have pursued over my 20-year career. Collaborating with Andreas Murkudis, whose curatorial eye and authentic approach I deeply admire, has made this project truly special."
